Scottish Rite Masonry

What is the Scottish Rite?
The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry is another system of extended degrees which are intended to advance the learning of the Master Mason who desires to delve deeper into the ideas that Masonry holds dear. The degrees are a series of very dramatic presentations, not unlike one-act plays, which present the initiate with a number of historical perspectives on the virutes which the Scottish Rite embodies. Chief among the themes of this rite is that of political and religious freedom. The Scottish Rite is particularly devoted to opposing intolerance and despotism in the state as well as in the church. The various degrees of the Scottish Rite are most usually conferred upon large classes during big festivals which draw members from dispersed locations. When properly conferred, these degrees are spectacular and impressive, both to the senses and to the mind of the introspective Mason. They promote and encourage a high degree of self-examination, encouraging the Scottish Rite Mason to continually examine his own behaviors and motives in his daily conduct.
